Ceres

Sup! HI guys, sorry for not updating anything new so far, but I hope it's not so late! I am really busy with school and studying here and I'm constantly working with the tablet during my free time.. Phew.. *sighs*

Anyway, so this is the Greek Godness of growing plants and nature, Ceres (in Greek it's Dimitra, like my name ^^)

I bet some of you don't know the myth of her and her daughter, Persefoni. So.. let me explain~

In ancient Greece, there was a Godness named Ceres, the godness of growing plants. She always helped the Greek people by making their plants grow and provided them with fresh fruit all the time. She had a dughter, named Persefoni, who helped her mother and liked playing in the fields with her friends. The God of the Underworld, Hades, saw her and fell in love with her. He realised he felt so lonely there in the Underworld, all alone and thought that she would be perfect to keep him company. So, one day, when she picked flowers with her friends, the Dryads and Νiriides, she saw a beautiful orange flower called narcissus and tried to pick it. but when she touched it, the ground opened and Hades took her down to his kingdom...

When Ceres learned about her daughter's disappearance, she begged Zeus to get her back. But he shook his head, saying that now she was in the Underworld, a world in which he could do nothing.. Ceres got really upset and as a punishment, she froze everything in the world, so that everyone suffered from hunger and illneses.

Persefoni found herself in the Underworld, and when she met Hades, she found him a nice guy and hung out with him. While her stay there, she was warned by Hades not to eat anything from the Underworld, or else she would stay there forever. Then a spirit, gave her some seeds, "Here, eat these...I picked them from the Earth.." the woman trusted the spirit and ate them. When Hades noticed he cursed and punished the spirit. But it was too late. Persefoni had already eaten the seeds...

It was almost three months since Persefoni's disappearance and Ceres was worried to hell. She went one day to the place where her beloved daughter disappeared and cried for her loss.

Persefoni heard her and turned to Hades, "I want to go back...I beg of you, I need to go to her.." he couldn't help but agree to her plead and took his black carriage, taking her with him and making his way up to the Earth. He went through hell, as he had to fight with the numerous demons and monsters that were living in the Underworld, but in the end, he made it.

Ceres saw the ground opening again and her daughter suddenly appaerd before her. "Persefoni!" they hugged each other until Ceres saw Hades walking towards them. "I would like to ask you a favour, Ceres..." he said, "I fell in love with your daughter and I wish to see her..If you agree with this, she can come with me to the Underworld for three months, and for the rest of the year she'll stay with you.."

So then, it was settled.Persofoni went to the Underwrold to live with Hades for three months. Then, Ceres spread the white water called snow everywhere, as a sign of nature's sadness for Persefoni's absense. And after that period of time, Persefoni came back and everything felt alive again..

That's what everyone today knows as 'Winter'
